Last Friday the students enjoyed a Teddy Bear Day at school. Students were encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bear to school which they shared during Show and Tell. In the morning the students enjoyed various teddy bear inspired activities outside such as Bear in the Bucket, Bears on the Blanket, Water Bears, Musical Bears, Bear Writing and Bears on the Balance Beam. In the afternoon the students enjoyed some bear video stories and we had a Teddy Bear Picnic in the classroom. Thank you to Abby for sharing her Teddy Bear Picnic book with the class.

Last Monday the students enjoyed a field trip to Greenview Aviaries Park and Zoo. The students were able to experience the splash pad, outdoor play equipment and zip line as well as see the many animals in the zoo. A special thanks to all our parent volunteers who came. The last two school days the kindergarten students welcomed some community helpers to talk to the class about their jobs. On Friday Mrs. Curtin made arrangements with Children's Safety Village for fire fighters to come visit the school. The students were fascinated with the fire truck and all the equipment they were shown. The students were also able to tour the truck and sit in it. On Monday morning a Sargent from the police force came to talk to the class. He discussed his job, equipment he uses, and answered questions the students had put together last week. He also talked about how the students can remain safe when outside playing. In our study of the life cycle of butterflies, the students have been interested in completing different butterfly activities. Students have been working on caterpillar and butterfly crafts as well as making butterflies with the life cycle shown using pasta noodles of different kinds. These crafts have helped the students with learning and remembering the stages in the life cycle of the butterfly. In addition we have watched how our Painted Lady caterpillars have gotten bigger and changed into the stage 3 chrysalis. We observed today how the butterflies have emerged from their chrysalis into real butterflies. Many of the students spent their afternoon play time making observations of the butterflies in the butterfly house. At the end of the day we watched seven of the butterflies fly away outside. We also saw how well they are camouflaged when some landed on the sticks on the ground and we had a hard time locating them. |
