For the month of December the students have been hard at work preparing for Christmas. The students have been learning about Advent by having weekly prayer lessons. This week they are looking forward to lighting the pink candle on the Advent wreath for week three. The students were also excited that Santa sent an "Elf on the Shelf" for the class. The class voted to name our elf Chippy. As you may not know, Chippy talks to Santa each night to tell how the students did during the day. The students come in eagerly each morning to see what Chippy was up to during the night. They especially liked the glitter pens he got into and when he was caught driving with Barbie and Bee the Transformer on the puzzle shelf. We turned the workshop centre into a Christmas baking center after we notice the students were making cookies and candies with the play doh. The students are intent each day on creating new chocolate creations with the chocolate play doh and decorating the class tree with Christmas decorations in the writing centre. In math we finished working on pumpkin measuring activities such as measuring the height and circumference and will be counting the pumpkin seeds to see which of our predictions for the pumpkin that has the most seeds (large or small pumpkin) is correct. We have started work on 2-dimensional shape identification. We are also decorating Christmas trees and counting the ornaments in JK and completing simple addition with the SK's. The students have been very excited to play with the parachute during gym class. They especially like to make mushrooms and play cat and mouse games. In literacy the students are studying the differences and similarities between the various gingerbread stories and will be completing some writing activities based on their preference. Congratulations go out to Braeden who was chosen to receive the Journey to Holiness award for November. All the teachers wish our students and their families a safe and happy holiday.

Today the students enjoyed breakfast with Santa. The students performed two songs: Christmas Makes Me Sing and Jiggle Bells. After our performance we had a delicious breakfast provided by the South Windsor Knights of Columbus. The students then spent some time individually talking with Santa. Great fun was had by all! I would like to thank the South Windsor Knights of Columbus, for helping our students with providing funds to help cover the cost of the buses, as well as the family members that came. |
