On Thursday the students enjoyed seeing the movie "Trolls". Great fun was had by all. On Friday afternoon we had our Christmas Social. Thank you to the many parents, grandparents and family members that helped the students create two Christmas ornaments and decorate gingerbread. May everyone have a safe and happy holiday.

For the last couple of weeks the students have been working on some art work and ornaments for their tree at home. In math the students had to complete a candy cane ornament made with red, white and/or green beads. The students were required to complete the ornament in a pattern. The students also took part in the annual Christmas turkey lunch. Last week on a sunny morning the students noticed what looked like orange flames comming out of a chimney across the street. Since it looked to me like orange flames too, I decided to call 911. The fire department sent two trucks from Station 4. By the time the trucks arrived the sun had shifted and what looked like orange flames just turned out to be the sun reflecting off the heat exhaust from the house's furnace. Captain Shawn and firefighters Rob and Brandon were only too happy to talk with the students about their job and assured them that it was better to be safe and call the fire department even though there turned out to be no fire. Captain Shawn just asked the students to make sure they have a working smoke alarm at home. Also today we had a visit from Site Superintendent Catherine from Oscar Construction, who is responsible for running the new build. Oscar Construction is the company bulding the new addition to the school. She was happy to talk with the students about her job and answered many questions that the students had. Many students were very interested in the special clothing she had to wear for her job. She mentioned that when the construction is done the students would get a tour of the new rooms. The students took part in outdoor activities for Spirit Day. Everyone got their free school Spirit shirt. Most students did really well on their Community Helper show and tell. Some students still need to bring in their show and tell paper. A few students brought in some props to show. We welcomed a new student Friday, Vanela. Congratulations to Max for getting the November, Together in Holiness Award for courage. The students received their reading at home books. I am encouraging all parents to practicing the 4-day plan as best as you can. The students should take 5 to 10 minutes each day to practice their numbers (using cards/100 chart), words of the week (practice all words) and read their chosen book. Students will change out their books on Monday. As part of their Social Studies unit we are studying community helpers. For Show and Tell this week I would like all students to pick a parent, relative or family friend's job/work to present to the class. The students are to complete and present the Community Helper form. Students may also bring in safe appropriate props or dress up as their community helper. All projects are due Friday, December 9, 2016. This week the classes Elf On The Shelf arrived from Santa. The students were very excited and can't wait to decide on a name for the elf. The students also helped Miss Nancy with cutting out sugar cookies. Later in the month the students with have a hand in icing the cookies to take home. Friday, December 23, 2016 the grade one and grade 1/2 classes will be having an afternoon of crafts and games before our Christmas vacation starts. We would like to have one parent/grandparent/family relative to come from 12:45 to 2:45 to help our students create a Christmas craft, ice gingerbreads and play Christmas games with the students. We will end the afternoon with some Christmas carols. |
