Last week our 100th Day activities on Tuesday turned into 100th Day activities for the week. Students completed 100th Day hats and Fruit Loop cereal necklaces that they counted out on 100 charts. Many students brought in 100 collections that were also counted out during math class. Students enjoyed counting out 100 Hungry Hash by tens. During play time many students took a turns at building with 100 cups. Kudos go out to those students that dressed as if they were 100 years old. I loved the grey hair, walking canes, pearls, glasses and suspenders. Great fun was had by all!

Today the students took part in a French Carnival. During the morning the students rotated in teams through various activities. In the afternoon they enjoyed having crepes. The afternoon was all about exchanging Valentines.
This week the students were very busy with activities that were creative and physical. The students enjoyed using the streamers and scooters during gym classes. Tuesday was Groundhog Day. In the morning students made a groundhog puppet and then tested their puppets during morning recess to see if their puppets saw their shadow. As you can see in the pictures, yes they saw their shadow as did Wiarton Willie. Most students predicted on Monday that Wiarton would see his shadow and they were correct. So I guess we will have 6 more weeks of winter, Yuk! On Wednesday the students went on a Winter Walk around the school. We were very lucky the weather was so beautiful. This past week we also continued our non-fiction study of penguins. The students shared their knowledge of penguins which have been mostly correct from the information read to them. We also practice two things Antarctic penguins are know for. Huddling in a group to stay warm and being able to transfer an egg from the female to male penguin on their feet. The students found that the egg transfer was not very easy and took a lot of co-ordination on their part even though they were only transferring a bean bag. |
