During the past week the students took part in a number of Earth Day activities at school. The students helped clean up the school yard and surrounding neighbourhood of the garbage that had accumulated through the winter. The students also planted a pansy to take home courtesy of Mrs. Nancy. This past week the students were asked to create a recyclable art project; either person, animal or thing. Thank you to all parents that helped their children with this project. The students created many interesting and detailed pieces. All the children were able to explain the materials and fasteners that were used to make their creations.

Friday the students took part in Jump Rope for Heart activities as part of a school wide support for The Heart and Stoke Foundation. Many students in class raised money for the charity. The students took part in dance, basketball, scooter races, hula hoop and skipping ropes. Great fun was had by all. In gym we have been working on parachute activities. The activities promote co-operation in order to move the parachute properly. In math we have begun a unit on three-dimensional geometry. The students are also practicing their addition, subtraction, measurement and graphing skills as they work in pairs on math games before our class lesson. In social studies we have been working on community helpers. This week for show and tell I would like the students to write a little report about a community helper of their choice. Their community helper project could be about a family members job. I encourage the students to complete their report for this Friday and bring in any artifacts to help with their presentation (eg; tools, clothing). In science we are working on the five senses. In language arts we have begun a unit on media. For the next couple of weeks we will be talking about different forms of media and looking at how advertisers target different groups of people in order to sell their products. Congratulation to Trinity who was chosen for last months Journey To Holiness award for Belonging. |
