Today was very exciting for the children. To wrap up our health and nutrition topic we made stone soup after reading of the story last week. The theme of the story is sharing. The students enjoyed the soup they made. Miss Nancy shared her time, groceries, and stones with us to make stone soup. She runs the breakfast program and is so wonderful! We have been learning our shapes. We sent home a little shape book for families to practice reading and identifying shapes. Yesterday we had a shape search in the class and the hall. Students had to draw the shapes they found . In gym class the children played " The Hokey Pokey" using shapes and created shapes using their bodies. We also worked on composing pictures using just shapes. We also composed a class chart about shapes and the children drew real wor
The student have been interested in learning about nutrious food in their lunches. We made a big chart separating the four food groups using newspaper fliers. Then the students did a craft of gluing their favourite food groups on their own plate.
We talked about what foods the children had not tried during large group. The children were able to try some foods they had not eaten before. Many comments were made about the foods. Pomegranate and kiwi were among the favourites. Radishes and avocado were the least favourite in the class. Then we painted using the peels and pieces of the food afterwards. It was a fruitful day! For literacy Mrs. Curtin read the students the book, "Stone Soup". On Tuesday the students took part in making their own "Stone Soup" with many of the vegetables the students had learned about and some real stones! Dear Families,
Welcome to our blog. With this website and blog we hope to keep families updated on events and activities going on in our kindergarten classroom at St. James School. This month we are focusing on nutritional health, winter, penguins, and shapes. The children are exploring a new light table we have created for them. The children are really interested in cooking. We made a real ginger bread man, baked him and he ran away. We had a scavenger hunt to find him. We searched all over the school and he was in our class. The children will tell you all about it. In the area of literacy we continue to read daily as a group and individually. We continue to use the Word Box with the children as well. The children attend PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies) with Ms. Maitre to learn and practice their alphabet sounds and words to promote early reading skills. Our dramatic centre is currently an animal hospital. The children are enjoying to care for animals and each other with a doctors kit as well as literacy materials about animals and pets. We added in a cot representing a doctors bed to the class as well. The Math Centres are geared towards to winter and snow to follow the interest of the children as well. They are exploring number recognition, graphing, sorting, patterning, addition and team building skills with their partners.. Thank you parents for supporting our blog. We are happy to share the classroom news and events with you! Regards, Miss Riberdy Mrs. Curtin |
