As part of the Social Skills class with Mrs. Wilson the students have been working on the Fun Friends program. The program starts with the students sharing about their families and home. The students then moved on to talking about feelings. This past week the students have been talking about techniques in order to calm their bodies when they are upset. The class learned the breathing technique called 'milk shake breathing'. The students practice taking a deep breath before slowly blowing out threw a straw into their cup of chocolate milk, without causing the bubbles to flow over the cup. This technique of breathing is to have the students learn to calm their bodies when they are upset.

As part of our unit in science on materials, objects and structures we are working on a side unit about the senses. We started by learning about our sense of taste. Ask your child what are the four taste types our tongues can detect. The students had fun performing a taste testing experiment based on the four taste types. The students were given a lemon, pretzel, marshmellow and chocolate to try and identify the four types of taste our tongues make. In math the students have been doing a lot of partner work. We continue to work on creating math arrays for addition using unifex cubes. The students have also been working on making patterns with math manipulatives. |
