For our last field trip of the school year the students enjoyed watching Cars 3 at the show and having lunch at Central Park. The students loved going on the equipment and playing games. Thank you to Mrs. Mailloux who chaperoned for us. Great fun was had by all!

I am sure your child has told you about our Painted Lady Butterflies. As part of our science unit on Living Things, I orders the butterfly caterpillars so the students could understand the lifecycle of butterflies. The students were able to experience the three stages of the life cycle, caterpillars, chrysalis, butterfly. The students were very eager each day to observe the changes that occurred. The caterpillars come in small individual containers that have their food. The students learned that every couple of days their container had to be cleaned do to poop build up which would cover their food if not cleaned. They also learned through watching a time lapsed video that the caterpillar changes it skin about 5 times as I gets bigger. Even though we did not catch and see one of the butterflies emerge from its chrysalis the students were fascinated by the whole process. We were sorry when we had to let them go. Last week the students were working on building structures of 3 dimensional shapes and towers for our geometry unit in math. The students had to show that they could build the tallest tower depending on the 3 dimensional shapes they were using. They then had to complete a worksheet recording the number of shapes they used. We also worked on building the structures of 3 dimensional shapes and the students had to present their work naming the structure type, number and type of faces and number of vertices. Excellent work was done by all the students. |
