For the last two days the students have been trying to build their own shapes using marshmellow, tooth picks and cut straws. Most of the students were able to make cubes and prisms for the most part.
In math the students have been learning about 3-Dimensional Shapes. For the last two days the students have been trying to build their own shapes using marshmellow, tooth picks and cut straws. Most of the students were able to make cubes and prisms for the most part.

After sending in the data of how many of our tomato seeds germinated, I was sent the following information: Packet D seeds had spent 5 weeks in space while packet F seeds were the control group seeds. Of the 1440 schools in Canada and the United States that took part in Tomatosphere only about 70 to 75% of the seeds germinated. We hope our taking part in this experiment will help Nasa and the astronauts with space farming on a mission to the moon or Mars in the future.
The class started a project, a number of weeks ago, that came to my attention called "Tomatosphere". This science projects purpose was to grow some tomato seeds that had been exposed to space temperatures of minus 80 degrees in order to see if the seeds would germinate. We were sent two packets of seeds marked D and F. We were not told which of the packet of seeds had been exposed to the minus 80 degree temperature of space. The reason Nasa scientists are having hundreds of schools perform this experiment is to see if on a mission to the Moon or Mars what tomato seed type would germinate the best if there was a breach in the space craft and the seeds exposed to the minus 80 degree temperatures of space. Set D Seeds- We planted 29 and we found that 28 germinated. Set F Seeds- We planted 35 seeds and we found 33 germinated. We will find out which seed type (D or F) were the ones exposed to space temperatures once I send in the data. Stay tuned! The students enjoyed the movie "Finding Dory". After the movie we went to Central Park in South Windsor. We had lunch and then the students explored the climbing equipment. Thank you to all the parents that made our trip possible. Great fun was had by all! |
