Nursing students have been at our school for the last two weeks. After completing individual student health studies as a conclusion to their program the nursing students created a health fair that the class attended. The students learned more about healthy eating, sun safety and dental health. The students had fun taking part in some health games to show the knowledge they learned. As part of our science and health unit in class we used Rob to label all the body parts the students are familiar with.

Last Tuesday the Fire Fighters visited the grade 1 and 2 students for the second time. This time the students were able to learn about the fire trucks by sitting in one and being able to ask questions. The students also learned about each piece of equipment on the truck and again saw all the clothing that a firefighter wears. The students again practiced their stop, drop, and roll technique. Thank you to all the families that completed their home evacuation plan. The students planted some flowers in the garden with Mrs Nancy. We also checked on our pumpkin that we planted in the ground last fall. The students were excited and surprised when we only found the individual pieces of garbage (wrappers, pop can, juice container ect.) that we had put inside the pumpkin. The pumpkin rind and stem had totally turned into soil over the long winter months. This past Friday the students spent the day taking part in track and field activities. The students were split up by grade level and took part in activities in order to determine the students that would be picked for the track and field team next month. The students took part in the 100m, 300m. shuttle, ball throw and high jump. This was a grade 1-6 event even though the grade 1 students are too young for the track team. Great fun was had by all the students! Today the students took part in a field trip to Ojibway Nature Centre. The students learned to spot signs of Spring by finding animals and plants at the nature centre. The students took part in two nature hikes, completed a scavenger hunt, got up close with a snake and turtle, tried to hand feed some birds and explored the exhibits in the nature centre. The students also learned to identify a variety of different bird species and were able to spot tracks of the deer in the park and learned about the life cycle of robins and frogs. Great fun was had by all. This week for Religion and Visual Arts the students completed work on their 3 dimensional crosses. The students also spent the week practicing for the Character Education Assembly. For the assembly the students had to make a statement about what citizenship was. Each student read their statement in the assembly. All the students did very well. |
