The students completed their work on pumpkins in math by counting the seeds in them. Students had to decide what pumpkin had the most seeds, the small, medium or large one and placing their answer on a graph. After reading the book " How Many Seeds In A Pumpkin?" the students were given an opportunity to change their mind after learning that the number of lines on a pumpkin means there is a row of seeds on the inside of the pumpkin. Students also worked on counting the seeds by 2's, 5's, and 10's. We found that the large pumpkin had the most seeds. The smallest pumpkin was used to find out about decomposition. We placed pieces of garbage like a pop can, food wrappers and banana peels inside the pumpkin and then we buried it in the front yard. Students had to predict what would happen to the pumpkin and garbage in the spring when we dig it back up. Ask your child what they think will happen with the pumpkin. The other two pumpkins went into the composter.
