While the students have continued to enjoy the various centres in the classroom-pet centre, fine motor centre, writing centre, computer centre- we have also been working on a number of new activities the past few weeks. The students have continued to work with their grade eight buddies on math work station boxes. After the Easter holiday we will be changing to more spring time math activities. The students have started a unit in math on measurement. They explored the concept of length by measuring each other to see if they were taller then a one meter string in order to go on a Ferris wheel. They concluded that 20 students could go on the large Ferris wheel but 2 were shorter than the string and would have to go on the small Ferris wheel. We have also been exploring colours. The students have learned that they can make secondary colours (purple, orange, green) by mixing primary colours (red, yellow, blue) using water and food colours. They have also learned about making different colour shades. We have explored what a plant need to grow after we saw what happened to our shamrock plant once we got back from March break. We tested out the student's ideas about how to get the plant to grow again by giving it water and plant food. They finally decided that nothing would make the plant grow again and it was truly dead. For Easter we have continued to follow our Lent calendar and count down each day until Easter. The students have enjoyed making a few Easter art pieces-Lent cross, painted Easter egg and dyeing/decorating their own Easter egg. Congratulations to NyaLiep and Anderson our Students of the Month for March. The theme for March was goodness. The students would also like to thank Paul and Louwanna Closs and the volunteers at Divine Mercy Special Works Conference that created and donated the Easter baskets for our school. The students were so happy to receive them. Have a great Easter holiday.
