During the past few weeks the students have continued to enjoy working in the pizza centre. They are also working on Pizza Glyphs based on themselves. In the writing centre the students are all about making books. We have also welcomed Ms. Dennis in our classroom who is here from the education program at the University of Windsor to work with the students making observations. In math we have continued to work on number identification through our snowman game and using 5 frames in order to compose number amounts as well as practice some addition skills. The students concluded the 2 dimensional shape unit by making pictures of objects using various 2 dimensional shapes. Take a look at our bulletin boards to answer the question "What do you see?". Next we will be working on a unit of measurement. To start off the unit the students measured their snowperson they made after listening to the book "Snowballs". The students completed a painting for their snowperson using bright colours which was used as the background for their snowperson. They then decorated their snowperson with crayons and found items from around the room to create a collage effect just like in the book "Snowballs". The tallest snowperson made was by Sophia at 23 unifix cubes long. For Groundhog Day the students predicted that the groundhog would not see his shadow. We hope that Spring will come early? Congratulations to Josh and Sophia for being the January Student of the Month. The theme for January was Integrity.
