This week the students have been learning about the beginnings of Earth Day through stories read to them. We have also discussed the importance of recycling items to be used in other ways rather then adding them to our garbage. On Friday Miss Nancy, who takes care of the school snack program as well as the gardens, organized the students to plant flowers to take home. The students also participated in a school wide clean up of the yard. In art/writing the students are in the process of creating posters that will be posted in the school to remind students to recycle and keep the yard tidy. Their art of the Earth was done with recycled newspaper. During play time a number of students have continued to be very creative in using recycled pieces of garbage (Kleenex boxes, paper towel rolls, elastics) to create works of art.
